Norm Beechey was the Peter Brock of the 1960's and
early 1970's. He was particularly popular in his home state of Victoria.
He was Australia's first touring car hero. He
had an eager crowd of fans follow him where ever he went, causing
the term "Beecheymania" to be coined.
"Stormin Norman", as he was to become known, raced cars
that were mostly powered by big American V8s and mostly cars
from the General Motors range. He did however race Hillman and Chrysler
cars, as he was a Chrysler dealer for a time.
He even raced a Ford
factory provided Falcon GT HO for two glorious race meetings just prior
to his retirement .
This made Norm probably the only driver in
Australia (the world?) to have factory support at various times from the 'Big Three'
manufacturers , GM, Chrysler and Ford.
